Dr. Martinez is an Albuquerque native. She attended Albuquerque Academy and completed a degree in biology with a minor in chemistry at the University of New Mexico. A visit to an optometrist for new lenses inspired her to move into to optometry. She graduated from Ketchum University (formerly Southern California College of Optometry) followed by an additional year of residency training in Pediatrics and Binocular Vision at the University of Houston College of Optometry.
With a special appreciation for pediatric optometry, she worked with children with binocular vision problems and vision-related learning problems. She also broadened her experience by working with adult patients with vision impairments, newly acquired brain injuries, and soldiers returning from war with new ocular complications. Since 2010 she has also spent time working with the New Mexico School for the Blind & Visually Impaired (NMSBVI) to provide mobile clinics to low vision students throughout New Mexico.
Outside of the office, Dr. Martinez is married and has three children. She enjoys spending time with her family including playing soccer, getting out into nature whenever she can, listenting to audio books at 2x speed and traveling.
Employee Name
Every time you come for an appointment, we want you to feel welcomed and comfortable. We provide an experience that leaves you feeling like a part of our family. We want you to understand your current vision status completely and to maintain good vision after you leave the office. We firmly believe that preventive care is the key to eye wellness and we want to share that knowledge with you.
At your first office visit, you will receive a complete eye exam from the optometrist. Our staff will use modern diagnostic devices to test your visual abilities. Some of the diagnostic equipment used for eye exams also shows us the inner structures of your eye, allowing our optometrist to detect any structural abnormalities or developing issues.
Our staff will ask you about your current symptoms and medical history. Our doctor will combine the information from the diagnostic tests with your medical history to get a complete picture of your visual health. Once the doctor interprets this information, they will discuss your personalized eye care plan with you. We want to be sure you understand how to care for your eyes and strive to create an open-dialogue to empower your eye health journey.
For example, one condition we often see at our office is dry eye. Our patients tell us their eyes feel scratchy or irritated, and they may be red. Dry eye can be caused by blocked tear ducts or other eye conditions. Our doctor will provide you with a treatment plan for your eye dryness, including warm compresses, eye drops, or more specialized treatments.
